Tony's Designations & Certifications
As a Realtor®, I find that continued education within my industry is crucial and extremely important to gain new knowledge by completing course programs and achieving designations and certifications to increase my skills, proficiency, and knowledge for my Real Estate practice.
The National Association of Realtors® and its affiliated Institutes, Societies, and Councils provide a wide-range of programs and services to achieve several designations and certifications acknowledging experience and expertise in various real estate sectors in which are awarded by the National Associations of Realtors® and each affiliated group upon completion of required courses.
The following are designations and certifications that I currently hold and have passed successfully.
Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI)
The Graduate REALTOR® Institute (GRI) designation is one of the most recognized designations in the real estate industry. The GRI is a program that provides the real estate tools and knowledge for REALTORS® to meet the 21st century.
The GRI symbol is recognized nationwide, showing buyers, sellers and other real estate professionals that you are a true professional and have a solid grasp of real estate fundamentals. All enrolled must complete 12 courses within the program and pass all 12 exams given after each course is completed.
Master Certified Negotiation Expert (MCNE)
Tony Melo has successfully completed the Master Certified Negotiation Expert© (MCNE) designation program conducted by the Real Estate Negotiation Institute (RENI; also known as Negotiation Expertise, LLC). The MCNE program is the premier and most comprehensive negotiation designation program in real estate.
The Master Certified Negotiation Expert© (MCNE) program consists of six training courses covering professional negotiation theory and techniques, as well as practical application to real estate negotiation situations. The Real Estate Negotiation Institute (RENI) is a member of the Harvard Program on Negotiation and researches negotiation literature around the world to bring the best possible training to real estate professionals.
Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR)
The Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR®) designation is designed for real estate buyer agents who focus on working directly with buyer-clients. Each enrolled is to complete and pass several courses as well as end of course exams on all materials learned. In addition, all must have sold 5 properties where they represented the buyer within the last 12 months of obtaining their ABR designation.
When a Realtor decides to obtain their ABR designation they gain the following:
- Valuable Real Estate education that elevates their skills and knowledge in the eyes of homebuyers.
- Receives ongoing specialized information, programs and updates that help the Realtor stay on top of the issues and trends in successfully representing homebuyers.
- Allows access to REBAC members-only marketing tools and resources, which provide an additional competitive edge.
Seller’s Representative Specialist (SRS)
The Seller’s Representative Specialist designation is the premier credential in seller representation. It is designed to elevate professional standards and enhance personal performance.
The designation is awarded to real estate practitioners by the Council of Real Estate Brokerage Managers (CRB) who meet specific educational and practical experience criteria. In addition, all must have sold 5 properties where they represented the seller within the last 12 months of obtaining their SRS designation.
Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES)
Seniors Real Estate Specialists or SRES designees are REALTORS qualified needs of home buyers and sellers age 50+.
This two-day training program, held nationwide throughout the year, offers REALTORS the unique opportunity to learn and build key skills in counseling adults 50+ through selling their family home, buying rental property, or moving to a senior community, among many other issues.
Seniors Real Estate Specialists learn how to:
- Identify the power of generational demographics
- Develop and maintain relationship marketing skills
- Counsel rather than sell to seniors
- Use team-building skills with other seniors professionals
- Understand the implications of tax laws, probate and estate planning
- Create a point of difference from the competition
By earning the SRES Designation, the Realtor has demonstrated the necessary knowledge and expertise to counsel clients age 50+ through major financial and lifestyle transitions in relocating, refinancing, or selling their home. The Realtor is prepared to approach mature clients with the best option and information for them to make life-changing decisions.
Each enrolled is to complete and pass several courses as well as end of course exams on all materials learned.
Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS)
International real estate opportunities are everywhere. New people move to the U.S. from other countries every day and foreign-born individuals residing in the U.S. move to new markets. Americans in our current market invest in property overseas. No matter which international audience I cater to, the Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS) Designation provides me with the knowledge, research, network, and tools to globalize my business.
The designation is awarded to those by the National Association of Realtors for completing rigorous coursework devoted to learning international real estate practices and demonstrating proficiency in international business.
The CIPS designation is synonymous with advanced expertise, a global perspective, and distinct understanding of a global buyer. As a designee, I can efficiently work with all international buyers, including U.S. residents looking to invest overseas, foreign buyers purchasing in the United States, as well as recent immigrants who might be unfamiliar with real estate transaction practices in the United States.
At Home With Diversity (AHWD)
At Home With Diversity® is an educational experience designed to present a picture of the changing face of the real estate industry. Since 1998, the At Home With Diversity® program has prepared over 20,000 REALTORS® to work effectively with and within today’s increasingly diverse pool of homebuyers.
The At Home with Diversity® Course is a 7 to 8 hour class that can be taken online or in person and addresses the topics of diversity, fair housing and business planning development.
The At Home With Diversity® Course teaches REALTORS® how to:
- Assess and understand attributes of diversity in local markets and their impact on the real estate industry.
- Build a business plan and selling strategy to successfully service all client profiles.
- Understand basic competencies to earn the confidence of potential buyers and sellers, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, handicaps, familial status, or national origin.
